Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery was incorporated in 1888. Prior to becoming a cemetery, in October of 1864 the Civil War Battle of Westport also known as “The Gettysburg of the West” was fought throughout this area. The rock wall that borders the southern property line is where Confederate General Joseph O. Shelby made his last stand against the Union forces.

Many prominent Kansas City families, political figures, entertainers and famous baseball players rest beneath the canopy of trees at Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery. Among them are Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Greeting Cards, & R & B Singer Johnny Taylor and famous baseball greats Leroy “Satchel” Paige and John “Buck” O’Neil.

Forest Hill and Calvary Cemetery offers a wide selection of burial arrangements from traditional earth burial, private and community above ground mausoleum entombment, cremation niche inurnment and now offering natural of “Green” burial. We also offer families a varied selection of memorial options including granite benches, flush bronze memorials, up–right granite monuments and flush granite markers.
